How do I create a new ideabook?
Share:

houzzsupport There are two ways to create a new ideabook.

Go to your profile and click the "New Ideabook" button.

Or

When you find a photo you'd like to add to a new ideabook, click the "add to ideabook" button below it. Then, choose "or new ideabook" and type in the name of your new ideabook in the blank space to the right. Click on the "add to ideabook" button at the bottom and the photo will now be in your newly created ideabook.

The Brenner Collection When using the ipad, after choosing "add to ideabook", I do not see " or new ideabook" anywhere.

Emily Hurley Hi there,

If you click where you see the name of the ideabook that is the current default for your account, you will see the option to add one along with a list of any others you have already created. Hope that helps!

paget89 I am unable to title. The cursed on my iPad won't go there.
Emily Hurley Hi paget, Do you mean you can't create a new ideabook or you can't edit the title?

Have you tried logging in to the website using the safari browser on your iPad to see if that might work better for you?

Barn Light Electric Company We've created ideabooks but we are having a problem getting them to save in an article format.... How do we do that?
Emily Hurley Hi there, The article will not save permanently to article format, however, if you put it in article format and then share that url that is shown on your page, anyone that views it will see it in article format. Hope that helps!

syd21 My son sent me an email to allow me on his ideabook. Help...dont know how to do it.
Emily Hurley Hi syd, Does your Houzz account use the same email address he shared the ideabook with? If so, you should see it right on your page with your other ideabook when you visit your profile. Hope that helps!

New Leaf Redesign Are my Ideabooks/photos private? If not, is there a way to make them private until I want to make them public?
Emily Hurley Hi New Leaf, Your uploaded photos and projects are not private, but ideabooks that you create can be private. To change that setting, just go to the ideabook, click Collaborate, then select private and save that setting. When you are ready for them to be public, just go back to that setting and adjust as needed.

nancybck2 I am trying to se up my first ideabook on the website using Safari and it will not work. I've tried both suggested options but I am not able to fill in the blank asking for the name of my new Ideabook. My cursor doesn't show up there. Any ideas? I would love to use the site but no luck so far.

Shoshana Bloom How do I get help designing a room?
Emily Hurley Hi Bluejay, From the app, when you find a photo you want to save to a new ideabook, click to add it to an ideabook, then on the popup that appears, tap where you see the name of your ideabook. You will be able to select a different one or create a new one from there. Hope that helps!

Emily Hurley Hi Shoshana, If you have a particular design issue you are trying to tackle, post a new design dilemma here to ask for help. http://houzz.com/discussions Remember to include photos to get the most relevant suggestions!

museumlady How do I go to my profile? I don't even know if I have one. I am on my app on my iPad.
Emily Hurley Hi Museumlady,

The iPad app works a bit differently. There isn't really a profile to visit. If you want to find your own ideabooks, tap where you see "My Houzz". Hope that helps!

museumlady Thanks, Emily. I have it all figured out now, profile or no profile. I love this app!!!

New Leaf Decor Hi Emily, Im trying to create an article using ideabook, I can add text but would like to insert a photo from Houzz, how do I do this? Can I just click and drag? Thanks for your help.
Emily Hurley Hi New Leaf, If you see a photo you would like to add, just click "Add to Ideabook" on it and select the appropriate ideabook to place it in. You can also click the button that says "Add photos to this ideabook" when you are looking at your ideabook.
New Leaf Decor Hi Emily,
Thanks for your reply. Yes I can add text and add photos but how do I get the photo in amongst the text like in this example

I cant seem to insert a photo between the paragraphs. The photos are just grouped at the bottom. Id like to be able to create an "article" like the example shown.
Sorry if Im just not getting it...
Simone

Emily Hurley Ahhhh...Okay, go to your ideabook and look for two small buttons next to the "Add to Ideabook" button. One of them shows your ideabook in the regular view, the other switches to article view. Attached a screenshot below.
New Leaf Decor Hmm, I saw that as well and tried but still just see the box with my paragraph and the photos below. There is a difference in the way the photos look but still unable to add text, pop in a photo, then add more text below a photo...Im using a mac, and Safari v 5.0.5
6 months ago ·
Emily Hurley Hi again, I see what you are saying. The paragraphs that appear between photos are actually there just as a function of the amount of text and space available. If you add more text and/ or spaces, your text will appear between paragraphs. Hope that makes sense!
New Leaf Decor Oh, so I cant necessarily control where the pictures end up in amongst the text? It would be nice to be able to control this, anything the Houzz team can do about this? A simple "Insert picture" option along with the Bold, underline, italic would be great.
Thanks for your time.
Emily Hurley Hi again, You can arrange the order in which your photos appear by clicking and dragging them into place when you view your ideabook outside of the edit mode. You can then control in what order they appear.

If you have any other questions about how they work, just shoot us an email at support(at)houzz.com

JH Custom Builders Hi! I would like to work on projects for my company, add some spit and polish to them, before they are public. I tried the Idea Book route, but it directed me back to Projects because the pictures are my own. Is there a way to work on Projects privately? Thanks!

Emily Hurley Hi there, There is not currently a way to work on projects currently, but that's great feedback.

Clayton Douglas Homes, LTD I have set up a shared ideabook for some colleagues, but I'm not finding how to add a "new" comment to a saved photo in the shared ideabook. I'm sure I'm missing something...... Is this possible?
Emily Hurley Hi there, If you are using the app, when you find a photo for your new ideabook, tap to add it, then tap where you see the name of your current ideabook to create a new one or select among others.

If you are using Houzz via the web interface, you can also go to your profile and click the New Ideabook button to get started.

Hope that helps!
Clayton Douglas Homes, LTD Thanks Emily, I appreciate the quick reply. Unfortunately, I'm not trying to add new photos, but make comments on existing photos already in an Ideabook....... Is this possible? Thanks!
Emily Hurley Hi again. That is definitely possible. Just go to your profile via the web interface, click on the ideabook, then click Edit and you can change or add comments to any photos you have saved.
Clayton Douglas Homes, LTD Thank you! That works! (for whoever is coding Houzz out there who might see this, it would be very nice to be able to edit comments on each photo individually, when in the larger view, as you're scrolling through them, vs having to go back to the whole ideabook thumbnail view, edit, type, save, then go back to larger view to continue........ just saying...!)

rlplouffe Lots of people trying to figure out how to add ideabooks on their account - most from the iPad app, I suspect. Lots of simple sounding answers ending with "hope this helps." So for clarity, using the houzz iPad app...
1. How do I access my profile - can this ONLY be accomplished on the website?
2. I don't have any of the options within the houzz iPad app for creating a new ideabook described above EXCEPT for selecting a new photo to add and selecting "or new ideabook." Is this the ONLY method available for adding idea books from the houzz iPad app?

Thanks
rlplouffe Actually, the option is "Select or add an ideabook:", not "or new ideabook."
Emily Hurley Hi there, Yes, clicking to add a photo to an ideabook and then choosing to add an ideabook is the only option from the iPad app to create a new ideabook. You can, however, access the houzz site from the browser on your iPad and use the website functionality. On the web interface, you can go to your profile and click the "New Ideabook" button. The profile view is available only on the web interface at this time.

KFins Can I save a photo from another site? I got the "Bookmarklet" but nothing pops into the ideabook or photos.
Emily Hurley Hi there, If you have the bookmarklet, you should be able to save images from other sites. Every once in a while you may run into a site that doesn't allow their images to be saved that way. Can you shoot us an email at support(at)houzz.com with a link to the image you are having trouble adding with the bookmarklet and we will take a look. Thanks!

Kurva Design As a professional furniture maker, I am wondering how best to make use of the 'ideabook' function. I have put my own work in the project section, should I use ideabook for other peoples work that inspires me or my own designs that are still on the drawing board?
Thanks, Mike Randall
