Exterior - do two buildings have to match?
We are building a main house 3 years after building the garage/apartment. The cost of the siding has tripled. We are thinking of doing a mixed exterior on the main house but it would be introducing a material that isn't found on the garage and we're afraid it will look stupid. Garage is stained hardieboard and we are thinking of mixing with metal. The main house will be a 1 and 1/2 story...so would it look strange to do the 1/2 story in metal?

Barnhart Gallery Make sure that the buildings are about 75% congruent in materials and it will look cohesive.

Kaplan Architects, AIA I think the metal could be okay for the 1/2 story. I would try to carry through as many of the original materials and details as possible.
