rawketgrl What specifically are you keeping and what do you want to change? I am not sure what you mean by "I need help with the open concept." Do you mean you are trying to make the eating area "go" with the kitchen? If so please post a few pics of different views of kitchen and eating area. I would like to see the upper part of the windows also.

Cute window seat. I would make a custom piece of high density foam cut to fit the entire window seat, and cover it in a fabric you love.

I am not in love with the open shelves and the table on the wall. I wonder if you don't have a bookshelf or another piece of furniture you could put there that could house the phone and cords better, as well as the nick knacks.

On my monitor the door is a different color than the cabinets, I think I would paint the door to match the kitchen cabinets if it does not.

The 1st thing you see is the garbage can. Can it be moved or disguised?

I look forward to seeing more pics of your cute space. :D

olldbobbi It seems like your window bench is being underutilized. I would remove the dining chair closest to it and pull the table toward it and use it for seating at the table. The extra chair could go on the opposite side.

I would also change the window covereings to something more modern, maybe Roman shades? You could dress up your table with some colorful placemats. [houzz=Burlingame Residence Two]

marybraue The kitchen The kitchen I'm not concerned with the open concept because it does open up to the The family room is a small wall that could be taken out but I know know if that would be necessary. I do want to put window treatments on the windows eventually and I do want to change the seating cushions I just haven't had the time. I am struggling with the phones it's my husband that I have to convince to get rid of the table. I did open a little window pass-through to the dining room that's all I convince him to set me do at this time

marybraue The countertops are Granite. The Backsplash is a earth tone. The cabinets are off-white . The open concept I'm talking about is from my family room into my living room my living room is never used and you can't see it from any part of the house. I wanted to combine the two rooms. Do something with the fireplace and my husband has agreed to get a flat screen TV and redo his stereo system. He still insists on around sound. Whatever that is. Opening up to two rooms may be expensive there is an electrical switch and one vent to an air-conditioned. And may not have to open the whole wall. Just enough to give me the open feel and be able to use the two rooms his a picture of the family room which is terrible and the living room The family room wall is the wall I want to take out. The fireplace is adjacent to that and on the other side there's a window patio that goes out to a very nice deck . The wall in the living room is the wall where the couches that you can see the corner of the couch

prissy13 I love the feeling of this space. Very cute and cozy! I would remove the blinds if you can, or at least pull them all the way up during the day to let in the light and views of outside. It would make me want to cuddle up in that window seat with a book and some tea :) If you can, get a longer and flatter window cushion too to make lying down more comfortable, so the cushions isn't moving around on you. I like your shelves on the wall, but maybe a bookshelf as someone else suggested is a good idea. It would look more "cottage" like with your theme, and the back would hide cords. Love that green one someone posted. Personally, i don't like the idea of using the window seat as dining seating. I feel like people like to lean back when at the table, and with the window seat, you can't do that (but just my opinion).

Martha Woods I agree with the treatment of the window seat as a bench to the table. In the pictures I feel your dark chairs seem to stick out. Would a new color scheme throughout and incorporate painting the chairs work? I personally enjoy a "comfy" chair close to the kitchen and my guests certainly seem drawn to mine. Do you have a small scale upholstered chair (not dining chair) that would fit in the nook where the sideboard piece is? That could be inviting. An occasional chair is also a spot to have fun with fabric choices.

What about treating the , I assume, garage door, as a wall - hang children's art, a message board (good spot if you are coming and going through this door), etc. My preference would be pictures hung as a tall unit, bottom to top.

Another thing that draws my eye is the tiny wall space at the end of your kitchen counter next to the garage door. Would a small shelf/cabinet unit work there? You might incorporate the trash can in the lower part to disguise it.

Just some thoughts.

Martha Woods I just thought of something you could use on the garage door - - the children's artwork frames (or pictures, etc) that can be opened from front and changed easily. Of course, anything hung there would need to be hung securely for the motion of opening and closing the door.

marybraue Do Mean the wall next to the cabinets I didn't take the trash can and put it in the other room. It's been a eyesore for me but my husband had a hard time dealing with it putting it out side. We just got married about two years ago and this was his house. And I came along and updated everything hit his style was back in the 80s. Get wallpaper everywhere. Simply put the house in my name and things are starting to look pretty nice he's not so resistant to change . The ideas with the chairs sounds pretty good too. I would like to look for some new ones and reupholster the seat myself those chairs of seeing their better day. Thank you all so much for your advice.

marybraue Also one of my problems with the window seat is that it opens in the center the doubles for extra storage for items we use seasonally. Any suggestions on how to cover that just small spot that's what I've got The cushion
