Said goodbye to the 1990's!
Our kitchen was in need of a major update. We built the house in 1994, and my kitchen walls had seen a variety of "what was I thinking" moments - starting with the grapes stenciled along the border, only to be covered by the lavendar and teal southwestern motiff wallpaper - that was supposed to look like faux finish paint. The linoleum floors lived through 2 dogs, 3 cats and two sons, and had seen much better days. And it was hard to believe I could not wait to say good bye to the oak cabinets and teal countertop that I was so excited to have back in 1994 - the doors were falling apart and the finish was badly worn. We decided to have the cabinets refaced rather than totally replaced - I don't think it saved us any money, but it did save us the additonal mess of tearing them out, and the time it would take to totally replace them. I selected white mdf for the kitchen cabinets and black for the island that replaced our kitchen table and chairs. My husband did the hardwood floors, all of the painting and we did the backsplash together. Our countertops are Cambria Minera and Cambria Bellingham. We added a new "hutch" style cabinet and boxed in the refridgerator by changing the upper and lower cabinets to another pantry. Very happy with how it all turned out!
