Should I get rid of venetian plaster for a lighter fresher look?

I have moved into a beautiful home with darker walls and venetian plaster. Should I paint over it for a newer fresher look? The plaster was expensive but it doe look tired.

PYRAMID DESIGN GROUP if you don't like it you have answered you own question. The next question is how to paint over it with out having your new paint peel off. You probably have to lightly sand the surfaceand then apply a good primer before painting.
