Living Room Windows - Help Needed
We currently have a 9 foot sliding glass door that we would like to replace with windows. The room is 20 feet long. At 7', there is a 4 foot beam supporting the metal beam in the ceiling, so we have to take that into account. Also, my husband wants to be able to put a couch against the wall and doesn't want the windows lower than 32 inches. Any thoughts you can give on window placement, sizing or designs would be appreciated.

bepsf Most people spend money to put in sliding doors/french doors to access the back yard and increase their home's value - not taking them out to eliminate access and diminish their value...

Are you sure this is a wise move?

Melanie Majerus We have another way to get outside (through the kitchen) and aren't sure that we want people to go through the living room carpet to get to the deck. The deck was unsafe when we moved in so we never got to use it. Maybe I could get by with one door and windows vs a 9 foot slider.

myrns If you don't want to access the deck/yard through the sliders, you could install top-down-bottom-up blinds over them. The blinds can be lowered to any level you like and your couch placed in front. With this type of blind you can also cover the whole opening when needed for privacy or coziness. Replacing windows & doors creates another project on the exterior.
