When I was a child, my family always had an Advent calendar that we used to count down the days until Christmas. There are six kids in my family, and my mom had to have some way of keeping her sanity during the holidays. We usually each had our own little calendar with chocolate pieces inside. This is the classic Advent calendar that my mom always bought for me and my siblings. There are 24 pieces of chocolate hidden behind cardboard doors, and you open one door each day. It was often too much for my younger siblings to handle, and they would get caught eating all of the chocolate on the first day. It's such a fun memory that I bought these for my kids this year.
These Lindt chocolate Advent calendars would have been too expensive for my mom to buy for six kids, but if you're a fan of delicious chocolate, it's the way to go for sure.

platypus I believe Trader Joe's sells very inexpensive chocolate advent calendars similar to the ones included here ($1 or $2 if I recall correctly) if you have many children you'd like to give them to. My grandmother used to bring me back the real deal from Germany and it was one of the best parts of Christmas!

Cathy Lara Whole Foods is selling them as well! I'm planning on getting one this weekend. When my tot's a bit older and has more restraint, I think I'll make a garland version. Can't wait for December 1! I love the holi-daze!
