The best way to decide what type of vase to purchase is to think about what kinds of flowers you usually buy. Do you have a flower garden that you use for fresh cuttings? Or maybe you can’t help but pick up a bouquet of sunflowers every time you’re at the store. Or if you’re lucky, you have a loved one that loves to surprise you with some fresh flowers on special occasions. No matter what the reason, odds are you’ll need something to house your favorite flowers or bouquet.
Size
A V-Shaped vase is great, because it works well with almost anything, and can support the stems of longer flowers with the sloped sides of the vase.
A bud vase is a simple vase that only displays one flower.
A flared vase has a wide top and a narrow body, which work well with full-flower arrangements.
Ginger jars have a wide body and a curved top, which supports flowers with weak stems.
A tall and narrow cylinder vase is great for flowers with long stems.
Style
It’s important to not just think about what will look great with your flowers, but also what will work best with the style of your home. A flower arrangement can be a huge visual centerpiece, so it’s important to place it in something that’s complimentary to the flowers themselves, and is attractive on its own. Simpler vases tend to work better for more extravagant flower arrangements, or any arrangement where you want to draw attention to the simple beauty of the flower itself. If you’re looking for an empty vase to work as a accent piece, find something in a fun color or pattern that works with your home’s style.
Material: There is as much of a variety of vase materials as there is styles! Pick from graceful glass creations, to an endless array of ceramics, to delicate porcelain, to quirky vintage and recycled varieties. Make sure that whatever vase you choose, it’s a material that’s suited to holding water, and is easy to clean grimy plant residue off of. Find vases design ideas here.
