Shades IN Place

Roger is fantastic at measuring and installing the shades. He helped us install a large arch shade and sky light shade in 2019. Recently the sky light shade ran out of battery and we couldn’t figure out where to locate it. Roger immediately stopped by our house and got the problem fixed. He is great at communication and we will definitely want to do business with him again in the future.

Shades IN Place has done it again! Our original project a year ago was bedroom Roman shades, but for this go round Roger and crew installed roller shades in my office, the den and garage. I would have vetoed roller shades based on what I remembered from my childhood - white, vinyl and faulty spring mechanisms. Roger showed us the light and the various options updated for todays style and durability. I wish I had more windows for Roger’s Shades IN Place to dress.

Roger from shades in place continues to be our #1 window treatment professional. Several years ago (2017) he installed several automated blinds in our two-story great room. We use them everyday. Lately, I’ve noticed that the normal wear-and-tear of constant use was causing some of the shades to come down slightly askew (can hardly notice). We had all of our windows replaced (17 mulled windows) and had no idea what we wanted to do for window treatments. Roger came for a consult and was amazing. Didn’t give me hundreds of choices or I would have been overwhelmed. He instinctively knew what would look good for the style of our house and narrowed down a few options for us. He measured and order the shades which were a combination of light filtering, black out and wood. The order came in quicker than quoted and Roger and his assistant installed everything in a I think an hour. All of my windows look AMAZING thanks to Roger and team! I definitely would recommend Roger with Shades in Place! He has an excellent selection of wonderful window treatments and I have had every window in my home updated with his beautiful shades! His measurements are spot on and his installation is superb. We were introduced to Roger, owner of Shades IN Place, by our interior designer. We were in need of shades for the upper level windows in our 2 story family room because of the blinding sunlight, high temperatures from the sun, and the bleaching of our furniture. Roger discussed our options and helped us select a blind that would address these issues. He quickly ordered and installed our remote-controlled shades and they work beautifully! In addition, Roger went above and beyond by helping us with some broken shades that previously had been installed by a different company. He took the 3 shades down and brought them to the manufacturer who repaired them. Roger then hung them back up and made sure they worked properly. Roger also replaced the broken pull cords on the shades on our kitchen French doors, also installed by a prior company. Roger was kind enough to do these repairs as a favor to us. We enjoyed working with Roger very much. He was timely, friendly, easy to work with and very professional. Roger was very respectful of our house by always wearing booties to protect the rugs, and was very careful moving our furniture. We could not recommend Roger and Shades IN Place any more highly! We love our new shades and are enjoying them in a much more comfortable family room!

We can't recommend Roger highly enough. He is so easy to deal with, transparent re: pricing and scheduling, and, I guess most important, a master at his trade! We hired him in 2014 after we moved into a new house to install plantation shutters and also fabric blinds in several different rooms. Roger with Shades IN Place provided excellent service, from the very beginning and planning stages, to timely communications regarding appointments, showing up on time with all the necessary parts, equipment and tools, and then providing expert installation of window shades as well as custom drapes, rods and finials for 18-foot high drapes. I was so fortunate to find Roger and Shades in Place. I was looking to have some artwork and drapes (including hardware) hung. Roger sent me a quote immediately and within 24 hours we had settled on an appointment time. Luckily for me Roger was able to squeeze my install in a couple of days later to accommodate my request. Really beautiful blinds. We chose a fabric/cloth material of a thicker 3 inch spacing. It looks really wonderful, when open it allows in ample light. When closed it is not blackout, but blocks just the right amount of light. The technology is fantastic allowing control with a remote, and wifi/bluetooth connectivity so that you can control with an app on your phone. You can store favorite settings with the blinds a certain height, or a certain degree of tilt on the shade so it moves to that location with one click. You can also set programs daily or weekly as a sort of "alarm" if you want to wake up to the light, or have it drawn shut when you're going to bed. Roger M. was wonderful to deal with. He is professional and highly skilled. On time, and quick with installation. He also goes over in detail every aspect of the system and gets it set up and ready to use before leaving. Highly recommend based on quality of product AND service by Roger.

I hired Roger after getting a referral from my RE Agent. Prior to hiring Roger, I had looked at a variety of competitors, some who charged more, some charged less. What made me hire Roger at Shades In Place, was he was transparent and gave me three options (lower end; mid-range; and high end). Without any pressure, I ended up going with the Lutron shades (high end) due to reviews, quality, needs of my windows, technologically more advanced, etc. This guy is the real deal. Roger did a beyond excellent job hanging this oversized drawing in my apartment. This was an especially challenging ask given that the picture needed to be hung above a set of stairs -- which required two ladders at different heights -- and also significantly high up on the wall. Roger seemed to do this effortlessly and in very little time (he also arrived early and couldn't have been more pleasant even with the initial challenge of getting the ladders up to the apartment). I had such a great experience with Roger and would absolutely recommend him for any art installation projects!

I have now used Shades In Place twice (in the past year) to choose and install shades -- once for shades throughout my new house and most recently, for shades in the third floor of my house, which was just renovated. Roger was incredibly responsive, able to schedule an initial appointment within days of first contact, and, once the shades were received, he installed them within a day or two. Excellent service, plus Roger brings a great deal of knowledge and experience to the table, so he was enormously helpful to me in figuring out what brand, type, opaqueness, color, etc., to choose for our shades. I've worked with Roger for almost 10 years in different projects, and he has always gone above and beyond to come up with the best solution to my window treatment problems. Since moving to my new home, he's installed a solar shade and some plantation shutters, but his most recent project solved a problem had with controlling the light coming through my skylights. Since I have mainly wood blinds and shutters, he recommended that I have plantation shutters installed, and I am very happy with the result. Now I can let in as much or as little light as I want, and the appearance is very clean. I've included a photo of one skylight installed, and one after both were installed. Roger is the ultimate professional and does extremely high quality work! Our very old South Boston home is tricky - nothing is standard sized and we recently did a major home renovation which resulted in a lot of custom work due to it being more than 115 years old. We first had three custom-sized shades installed in our bay window before our renovation. We loved them so much that we had Roger come back after our renovation to outfit a second bay window as well as two blackout shades in two bedrooms and additional shades in our den - all top down/bottom up. Roger is focused on quality, provides wonderful customer service and installs extremely quality custom blinds. He ene came back a few weeks later to fix one of the blinds due to a manufacturer defect. We would recommend him hands down for any specialty blinds.

Roger was SPECTACULAR! He was very flexible in scheduling the installation of four very wide cellular shades and one set of vertical blinds in a patio door, particularly when the shade provider shipped the shades later than anticipated. He arrived at the exact time he said he would (7am), worked quickly and professionally to install all the shades in just over an hour, and took the empty boxes with him. He was professional, courteous and friendly. Roger just finished installing window treatments for a condo I purchased in Beacon Hill. I live in Pennsylvania but my daughter teaches in nearby Dorchester so she and a roommate will be living in the property. I knew no one in Boston so I relied completely on internet comments to find someone to install window treatments. I couldn't have made a better choice. Not only did Roger make wonderful suggestions for the window treatments but I called him on the weekend after we met to ask if he could recommend an electrician for an emergency electrical problem. Within minutes he had used his contacts to find someone and the person came out that day (a Saturday) to correct our problem. On my own, I was unable to get an electrician to call me back! In addition, I was installing a bracket for a new TV and my daughter did not have a drill with enough power to drill the hole. Roger rushed down to his van, got his drill, and drilled the hole for me. This was before we had finalized our contract for work! He is just an amazing, helpful guy. Roger worked with my daughter who was unable to get a day off from teaching to start the job at 6:15 am so she was able to leave for school. We trusted him totally to lock up after the work was completed. Roger is a perfectionist and craftsman who treats your home as if it were his own. We are completely satisfied with his work (window treatments for 7 large windows and 1 French door). If you want someone you can trust who goes above and beyond to work with you on your window treatments, call Roger. You will not be disappointed.

Roger is not only extremely professional, but such a pleasant person to interact with. He takes great pride in his work (I wish my house was as organized as his showroom!). He was so helpful in every step of the process, and we couldn't be happier with the work he did in our playroom. We initially hired Roger to install wood blinds at my daughter's new home. He was a true perfectionist, and did such a wonderful job at her house, that we hired him again to install wood blinds at our own home. My fiance and I called Roger when we were about to close on our new house. We had no experience with shades, blinds or interior decorating. Roger from Shades IN Place was recommended to me by my contractor. I called for a consultation about two weeks before Thanksgiving. To my surprise Roger offered to come to my home for a consultation within a couple of days of my call. He came out and we talked in length about exactly what I was looking for. He took all of the necessary measurments, sent me photos to look at and a quote the very next day. The following week Roger came back to my home and we spent about 2 hours picking out the perfect colors for each room. We selected Hunter Douglas floor to ceiling honeycomb shades. Roger odered the shades immediatly and was back to me promplty with an installation date. When the installation was complete Roger told my husband and I if we noticed anything at all wrong to give him a call. When we went to bed that night we noticed light coming through the top of my the room darkening shade in my bedroom. When we tried to push it all the way up we noticed that it would not stay up. I called Roger and he came back the next day. He took the shade down and tried to adjust it however it was not adjustable. He went through all 3 rooms and examined the shades and determined that none of them were working correctly! He was very concerend and said that the situation was unacceptable and he was going to get me all new shades. He handed me back my check that I gave him the night before and told me that he was leaving the shades on my windows and would be back to swap them out once he recieves the new shades. Roger stayed in contact with me assuring me that he was working to get my shades replaced. I was not at all concerned as I knew he would make everything rigth. Sure enough Roger returned with all new shades and installed them perfectly. I would recommend Shades IN Place to my friends and family any day of the week! I usually, or better never, don't write a review but I had such good experience with Shades In Place that I had to write something. I was visiting a friend in Boston and I couldn't take my eyes out of her shades and she told me where she got them. I first thought they wouldn't come all the day to upstate NY, where I live. I called and I spoke to Roger and I already had a very first great impression. He came to my house and measured the windows, I chose the shades, placed the order ( reasonable price for very high quality shades) and in 3 weeks he was back and installed all of them in a few hours. Living in our home for over 40 years, we did a complete modernization of a master bathroom. The designer and contractor we selected were both great and the completed room is a testament to their expertise. The finishing touch was the replacement of a towel positioned for privacy in the window with a Hunter Douglas shade. Roger arrived when he said he would and impressed us by putting on booties as soon as he came in. It was installed expertly and professionally and made the room look finished. After his installation of the shade, he spent time insuring we were knowledgeable of its operation and satisfied with his installation.
